Proficiency Certification

The Proficiency Certificate (PC) is an essential golf certification that allows players to access and play on most golf courses in Singapore. It assesses a golfer’s basic skills, knowledge, and on-course etiquette.The PC is offered by Singapore Golf Association (SGA) accredited clubs. At DB Golf Center, we collaborate with Compass Club and refer students for certification after they complete a 12 hour private coaching program.

Pre Requisites for PC

  • Basic proficiency in full swing, short game, and putting.
  • Understanding of fundamental golf rules and etiquette.
  • Awareness of on course safety and golf conduct.
  • Minimum 12hours of formal golf instruction recommended before assessment.

To pass the PC Test, you must:

  • Demonstrate basic golf skills: full swing, short game, and putting.
  • Show understanding of golf rules, scoring, and course etiquette.
  • Maintain proper safety and behavior throughout the round.
  • Achieve the minimum score or performance standard set by the testing club.

Handicap Certification

The Handicap Certification allows golfers to obtain an official Handicap Index, which reflects their playing ability and enables fair competition across different skill levels. In Singapore, this certification is governed by the Singapore Golf Association (SGA) under the World Handicap System. To be certified, golfers must first hold a valid Proficiency Certificate (PC) and submit the required number of attested scorecards through an SGA-affiliated club. Once approved, the golfer receives a Handicap Index that is recognised both locally and internationally.

To pass the Handicap Test, you must:

  • Maintain accurate and up to date score tracking.
  • Achieve a scoring level that reflects basic course competency.

After obtaining your PC, you have up to 1 year to work towards your Handicap Index by submitting the required scorecards played on any SGA-recognized course.
Yes, you can use overseas scorecards to apply for a Handicap in Singapore, as long as they meet certain conditions under the World Handicap System (WHS). The rounds must be played on WHS rated courses, and the games must be played under the official Rules of Golf. It’s important that your intention to submit the score is declared in advance, and the scorecards must be attested by another golfer or marker. Once completed, the scorecards can be submitted to your SGA-affiliated club, such as Compass Club, which will process and enter them into your handicap record. This ensures your Handicap Index remains valid and recognised both locally and internationally.
