When we look at Golfing Anatomy I have always tried to explain it in a very simplistic way for all of my clients. As Majority of people know how to drive ive always described it in a way of how we operate and drive a vehicle.
This is also an important part of our approach to Golf Coaching, where we look at how the body and club work together during the swing
THE ENGINE (Your Body) – Your Body is the Engine in the Golf swing and for the Golf Club – Essentially how we move has a massive influence on the forces/power and speed we can generate in the Golf swing – Of course we want to move our body fast but there’s specific parts of the body we move fast compared to others. This allows us to move the golf club in the fastest and efficient way possible to generate speed. – Things such as synching up our arm speed, vertical force our lead leg generates and how we move rotate play a massive part in this .
THE TRASMISSION ( Shoulders) – When we look at the Shoulders in Golfing anatomy we look at how the shoulders play such a vital role in connecting our upper body to our Arms – When we have this vital linkage its important the power we generate from shoulders and arms are connected to how the brain needs us to move the golf club – if for example the trail should works out in the downswing instead of working more vertically down we see the path of the Golf club can be manipulated or compensated by the hands and arms resulting in all the power and speed from the engine going to waste.
THE STEERING WHEEL (Arms and Hands) – a Pivotal Part in us wanting to get to our destination in a vehicle is the steering wheel – in this case the steering wheel is our arms and hands as they are the ones in control of stabilizing the club face – a couple of things influence the club here
– 1 – Grip Pressure and asymmetry in our grip– one of the biggest beliefs I have in the grip is something we call equal and opposite pressure – When we have equal and opposite pressure – 2- hands both being asymmetrical whether its a weak grip, strong grip or neutral) and when we have equal grip pressure we are able to have an extremely stable face within the Golf swing and when we come into impact.
Throughout all my golfing career I have always worked on the belief of wringing a towel when gripping my club for full swings – this allows me to keep control of myself excessively applying too much face rotation to the club. Very similar to a car if my right hand is trying to steer the wheel left but my left hand is trying to steer the wheel straight there’s a high chance I would crash and not reach my destination – so in that sense if I have a right hand and arm wanting rotate in the downswing but have a left arm left hand wanting to stay straight its going to cause inconsistency in. my strike and direction.
If you are having issues with getting the Ball to where you want it to go take a look at your Golfing anatomy, re read what i have said and figure out what part of your chain isn’t driving the vehicle (the club) the way you want
